Omnicom Language SchoolWhile the primary focus of Omnicom School of Languages is the classroom, it is also very important to know how extra- curricular activities play a vital role in the language learning process. Being an international student away from the familiar sights and sounds of home can often be isolating. At Omnicom we plan events, activities and opportunities where students can build friendships and enjoy Canada, all while sharpening their English skills.

Upon arriving at the Airport, students are welcomed and placed with warm, friendly families where they experience Canadian culture. At Omnicom, we celebrate Canadian holidays and traditions such as Halloween, barbeques in the park, Canada day, Christmas, etc.

To experience Alberta at its best, Omnicom offers daytrips to various locations in and around Calgary. Easily the most well known of these trips is to Banff National Park. Banff offers striking views, walking trails along the beautiful Bow River and great shopping. Students who wish can take a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain and enjoy panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains.

Along with Banff, Omnicom students tour historic Lake Louise, where they can walk around the glacier fed lake or rent a canoe. Sometimes thunder fills the valley as giant pieces of ice break off of Victoria Glacier a few kilometres away. Alberta is nature at its finest.

New experiences and learning outside the classroom are good ways to engage students to talk, share experiences and form friendships. Omnicom chooses activities very carefully to enhance ESL learning and encourage conversation. Many international students have never been skiing or snowboarding, therefore, Omnicom takes students to some of the world famous ski resorts in Alberta such as the one at Lake Louise. Another uniquely Canadian experience is the Calgary Stampede and the world famous Stampede Parade.

When students choose to take part in extra activities it adds to the atmosphere of community at Omnicom. Often students who have graduated will share their experiences and photos on Facebook and remember being there with their friends. The students and staff that travel together on trips and activities share an experience that adds to the learning process, improves dialogue inside and outside the classes and leaves the students with a life changing experience when they go home.
